Autumn 1
Week 7
This week in Science we have investigated how our heart rate is affected by exercise. We designed our own investigations but little did we realise that we'd actually have to do the exercises!!
After writing a debate in English lessons about whether children in the city or children in the country were more affected by war, we then practised our debating skills in class.
In Art we produced Zentangle prints using printing ink and polystyrene to create our detailed designs. We were inspired by William Morris' wallpapers to create repeating patterns.
Week 6
This week we learnt about osmosis and diffusion in our body when we were looking at how water and nutrients are transported. We investigated diffusion by putting gummy bears into different types of water to see how the water affected them. Some grew rather large and others stayed exactly the same.
Week 4
This week we had an exciting virtual visit from children's laureate Joseph Coelho and author and illustrator Rosie Robbins. He talked about how he became an author and how he used to think of his ideas for stories by playing games when he was younger.
Week 3
This week we have been busy in our Science lessons investigating how blood vessels work and how they are affected by fat and our diet. We carried out an investigation using cups with different sized holes to see how long it would take the water to flow through them. The smaller the hole the longer it seemed to take. This shows that if our blood vessels are all clogged up, our heart will have a harder time pumping our blood around the body!
In computing lessons we have been learning about codes. First we had to crack our partner's code by guessing their number. Surprisingly, we got our answers pretty fast - we must be psychic! Then we had a go at using Scratch to edit a code. This was very tricky but we got there in the end!
Week 1
This week we have enjoyed talking about reading and choosing our new class novel for Mrs Boothman to read to us every day.
After much deliberation we chose Clockwork by Peter Bunzl. It is all about mechanical beings and a girl named Lily who has to uncover the mystery of her father's disappearance.
